Tuesday holidays suck

Off for two days - back for one - off for one - back for two - off for three.
A schedule like that's liable to drive a girl crazy. I feel like I'm back at Bad Sam.
Its not that busy, either which just makes the day drag on...
I could be/should be home taking care of my birthday boy.

There's a person inside me

Its unbelievable. I had an ultrasound yesterday in the ER at Nyack (long story - I'm okay) and was amazed at how much Peanut has changed in just 6 weeks.
The technician showed Corey more than me, but I got to see hands, feet and fingers!! Five little fingers. It really brought it all home - there's a person growing inside of me!!
At my last ultrasound, even though I got to hear the heartbeat it didn't LOOK like a person. This time, it did. An ACTUAL person.
Peanut was active, too. Jumping around inside me. I can't feel it yet, no matter how still I lay & how much I concentrate. I know I have time for that, but after seeing it move - I'm dying to feel it move.

I'm grumpy in the mornings or when I can't have a nap, I cry at the drop of a hat & I feel like a heifer. I just have to deal.

The water works have begun...

Had my second OB appointment today. It was quite uneventful but for some reason – upset me terribly.
First: the doc wouldn’t try to hear the heartbeat because she said its still too early to hear it in the office. Okay. Fine. No heartbeat today. I was disappointed but, hey – shit happens.
Second: she can’t really answer my questions about my vitamins and kind of gives me the run-around about it. She talked an awful lot but didn’t say a whole bunch. I left there more confused about my vitamins than I was when I got there.
Third: she starts talking about genetic testing. When & what needs to be done or can be done and if I decide to do it. She starts saying that if I decide to do it that it should be done early because terminating the pregnancy is less risky at that point, yadda, yadda, yadda. Wait. What? Terminate what? Huh? When did this come up? Now, granted, I was already a little upset about the heartbeat thing so I probably didn’t hear EVERYTHING she said. Corey could probably clarify that it wasn’t as bad as I thought and I was practicing selective listening. I’m good at that.
So, now I leave the OB – say goodbye to my love and head to Stop & Shop where I spend 20 bucks on crap. Chips, cookies, crap. Just what I need.
OH…that’s another thing I’ve forgotten. I also gained five pounds. Great. I know its supposed to be a good thing to gain a little weight during pregnancy, but I don’t know if I’m emotionally prepared for that part. C’mon – think about it. All that crap I went through to LOSE the weight – now I’m gaining it back. Sigh.
Okay – so now I’m at work. A big ball of emotion. Can’t stop crying. Tears streaming down my face as I sit at my desk. No one’s talking to me – they know better. So what does one of my lovely co-workers do? Show me a picture from the Christmas party a few years ago where…you guessed it…I’m fat. Thanks. Just what I needed. Thanks.
I feel like I’m pms-ing. Its strange. I don’t feel pregnant. That’s a whole other problem. I know I’m just hormonal and I guess this should be expected. I’m just bitchy & weepy. Please excuse me and my sniffly nose.

Two years ago I made a drastic life change.
140 pounds later I'm happier than I've ever been and its not just the weight.

None the wiser...

Had my second wisdom tooth pulled yesterday.
It was hell. H-E-L-L
I had a nasty cavity in the tooth that was bothering me last weekend so I called my oral surgeon of choice on Monday and made an appointment to have it yanked.
Fine. I've had a tooth pulled before - no big deal, right? Well...you forget: I'm pregnant. That means: NOVOCAINE ONLY. No nitrous, no anesthesia, no valium, no xanax. NOTHING.
Picture this: poor old Maggie Sue, who hates the dentist more than ANYTHING, sitting in the chair with a 170 lb man practically kneeling on me yanking at my tooth with pliers bigger than my head. Of course - this particular tooth had an exceptionally deep root so it took some effort. I don't know what was worse: the pressure, the noise of my tooth cracking or smelling the bone as he smoothed out my mandible.
Now, I'm in pain. Can't take any GOOD pain meds cause of p'nut - just extra strength tylenol.
PLUS, I have a busy weekend ahead of me. Trial wedding-hair today, Kelly's birthday dinner tonight, house hunting tomorrow morning, packing, meet with the organist in the afternoon and then a three hour drive to a brew-fest. Maybe it'll keep my mind off my boo-boo.

Queen of Indecisiveness

So, I went to David's Bridal a few weeks ago and brought home a BE-A-UTIFUL dress that I really liked an awful lot. I got the whole kit-n-kaboodle - dress, headpiece, veil, shoes, slip (might as well be a hairshirt its so damned itchy) and bra of torture.
There it hung - on my bedroom closet door - for a few weeks.
Last week, I took my darling niece Kassidy back to David's Bridal to try on flower girl dresses.
I walked into the bridal area and there it was. The dress of my dreams - and not the one hanging at home!!
I couldn't believe what I was seeing!! It was the dress I was looking for all along!
I didn't say a word - fearing the wrath of my mother. I could hear it already: "you can NEVER make up your mind!" or "Unbelievable, Margaret!" (my personal favorite)
So, I kept quiet...then...I couldn't anymore. I told my mom about the dress and took her to see it. She agreed with me. There has never been a dress that was more me.
I tried it on - fit like a glove (a size smaller, too! BONUS!!). The exchange was made and now...the dress of my DREAMS hangs on my closet door. I couldn't be happier.

Of course....I'm not allowed to set foot in a David's Bridal until AFTER the wedding.

I know it doesn't look like much, but its there. My first sonogram was a surreal experience. I got to hear the heartbeat & everything. The tech showed me where the spine was starting to form and the umbilical cord. There's even still a yolk sac because the placenta hasn't fully formed yet. In the one picture she showed me, it kinda looked like a fish! I can't believe I have to wait until I'm 20 weeks for the next one.

Right up there with He's Just Not That Into You and Its Called a Break-up Because Its Broken. The first of which became my Bible after the 'divorce' (but thats another post for another time).
Well, anyway, this author has set out to explain the great mystery of why men are so anti-marraige. He offers help to commitment-phobes and also tries to explain to women the reasoning behind it.
Here is what he calls the Ten Things Men Fear Most About Marraige:

1. The life sentence: "For better or worse." (Clank! Cell door shut!)

Now, don't get me wrong, some of those things are what scares ME about marraige, but it doesn't prevent me from wanting it. I think that if two people can agree to NOT let those fears come to fruition and work damn hard at doing it then a marraige can be a beautiful thing. Relationships take work - there is nothing easy in this world and love is certainly NO exception.

I have NOT read this book, just an excerpt Lena sent me from iVillage or Oxygen or some other girly site. It is also NOT in my shopping cart at Amazon. I have my own issues & insecurities and 300 pages of witty comments and dry anecdotes on a somewhat serious subject certainly aren't going to help them.

I'll start with Thursday: booked outta work as fast as I could to go meet up with Treble. Sorry I was calling/texting the wrong Rob all day!! OMG.
Head into the city to pregame @ the Molly Wee before Corey's show. Show was FABULOUS. Afterwards head BACK to the Molly Wee for some post-game/pre-St. Pat's drinks. Got my fair share of pinches after midnite for not wearing green...bad Irish girl. :-P Y'all know I didn't just to get the pinches, right? Ha!

Friday had dinner with Mom & Corey. Corned beef @ MBG is always a good way to start St. Patty's day.
After a short nappy at my house, Corey and I called a cab (which took FOREVER) & headed to PR to meet up with Bethany & P&C (we'll use Beth's nickname). Shots & beer were flowing in true St. Patty's day style. AWESOME time had by all!!

Saturday hung out at Kelly's and just relaxed. Much needed R&R.

Sunday, Corey & I took a drive to see one of his job sites. It was pretty neat to actually SEE what he does IRL.

We watched some b-ball at my place and I hit the books after he left. I haven't stopped since. Ugh.. I can't wait for tomorrow to be over. I want to get this test over & done with. Unfortunately, I can't forget it once I'm done. Effing cumulative final.

My back hurts, my head hurts. I'm going to bed.

Stop & Shop launched a program called SmartMouth that used their loyalty cards to create nutritional profiles for their patrons. The problem? They were in contract talks with a few HMO's to make use of the data the collected. So the person who has a penchant for salt & vinegar potato chips (me) and heavy cream may pay a higher premium than the chick online if front of them buying the soy milk & organic broccoli. All just because they swiped their card to get a lousy 50 cents off! They discontinued the program shortly after its inception.

Whats next? My car insurance premium is going to go up cause my EZPass tells Allstate I drive over the TZ twice a week and the GW at least once?

I'm sick & tired of Opie & Anthony poisoning the minds of my male friends.
EVERY single time I read one friend's email or post there it is...at leasts once: Your Mom's Box.
Not only that, but I'm sick at the crude humor and sexual innuendo he insists on putting into every writing. Pussy, dick, tit, fuck....its there....at least once or twice. Can't you write a message WITHOUT those terms? Do you think it increases your cool-ness factor? It does not. It makes you look like a douche bag. And to think, he asks me if I have any single friends? Get over yourself. I would never subject any of my friends to that behavior. O&A make men aggressive & give them God complexes.
Sure I've chuckled at a skit or stunt a time or two (back when they were on normal radio) but I've also almost vomited at the crap they insist on talking about. I don't care how many women Jim Norton's gotten to piss on him. I don't care to hear about sniffing someone else's belly button cheese and I don't care to listen to one more stupid women call in and discuss their breast size and whether or not the curtains match the carpet.
So I did the smart thing - I don't have XM radio. Besides, paying for radio seems just plain silly to me (but thats another rant for another time).

So, I'm back from West Virginia where I learned one important thing: I CANNOT SKI.
I made a noble effort, though. I just can't do it.
It was a fun weekend despite my sore tushy.
It was absolutely BE-A-UTIFUL down there. Corey drove me around to show me Blackwater Falls, Seneca Rocks and even attempted to get to the highest point in WV, Spruce Knob.
It was a nice little vacay that I definitely needed.

I've been lacking with updates - my apologies. Believe me - I've caught shit for it.
This week was a bit insane, but fun. I'm exhausted from it. I've said it before, you all know me: I L-O-V-E buring the candle at both ends.
Class started on Monday. I was very excited to learn that my pal Brooke is in my Organic Chem class. Instant lab partner - sweet! I was then notsomuch excited when I saw how much the books were. $400. Gulp.
Tuesday, Elena & I saw Yellowcard at Irving Plaza. They rocked our socks off. Awesome. It was a fun night. We did beer @ McManus first, dinner @ Heartland Brewery second and then rocked out at IP. I had too much fun text messaging the big-screen thing that they have down between acts. Mags & Lena do rock, dammit!!
Wednesday was more school & then the usual Karaoke @ the OL. Sang our usual I Love Rock & Roll. We were way off, though. I don't know what was wrong with us that night. I sang Spiderwebs alone and it was better. I was quite upset I didn't get to go to trivia @ Hooter's. For some strange reason, I thought Paul & Mike were upset with me since I bailed kinda early the previous week. They didn't call me to tell me what time to be @ Hooter's, so I was a sad girl.
Thursday. Hmph. Thursday. Was woken up at 6:30 to learn that my coworker had called out so I would need to go to our Nyack office to cover her. I was pissed. I hate going there. Especially when I have LOADS of my own work to do in New City. So I sucked it up and went in early. Thursday night I drove out to Danbury to meet an old friend. Then I got a txt from Paul & Mike saying they missed chillin' with me. :) Awwww..... So the usual trivia crew will be 2gether again next week for karaoke! Yay!!
Thursday night I was abosolutely exhausted. I didn't get home until almost two and I thought I was going to pass out. Got up for work Friday morning & felt much better and some how relieved.
Last night (friday) I went with Kelly & Bethany to see Lisa Loeb @ the Canal Room downtown. It was AWESOME. After that, it was to, where else, but the OL. Hey, its my Cheers.
So, I am quite tired today. I plan on doing absolutely NOTHING.
Well...maybe laundry....and go to the mall.....

So yesterday, I loafed around all day at Corey's.

Okay, so I'm feeling funky.
Can't help it.
I feel like I want to find a hole, crawl in it and sleep for the next week.
Its just par for the course with me. Every couple of months I go through this: Everyone is mad at me, nobody likes me, my world is ending kinda feeling.
I had a great weekend with Corey, but now I feel like crap. It started last night, unfortunately in front of Corey. I never wanted him to see that side of me & I'm sorry that he did. He did his best to make me smile & it worked (which is more than I can say for some, they just never cease to piss me off).
There's just lots of stuff going on right now not to mention the stuff that SHOULD be going on thats not. My physiology professor STILL hasn't posted my grade, my FAFSA isn't done, I'm dreading the upcoming semester, someone is talking shit about me on myspace (SO not worth the trouble) AND to top it all of my allergies are bothering the shit out of me. WTF. I just want people to leave me alone for, at very least, the next three days.
I need some mental health time, but unfortunately thats not an option.
I have much to look forward to, too. Good things coming up.
Just allow me these moments of funk.

Okay, I take my last final of the semester tonight. Yay! Then I'm done...finally.

Had my office holiday party on tuesday. Brought Corey as my date. :) Got to meet the insanity I deal with on a daily basis. Love them. Stacy was my secret santa and gave me cozy sleepy pants from Old Navy, Spinal Tap on DVD and a laser paddle (don't ask). Drank lots o'beer and ate lots o'food. Food was amazing, but there was just too much of it (if there is such a thing). Took a lot home.

The party was over and before I knew it, it was time to say gooodbye to Corey. Won't see him for Christmas since he'll be with his family in WV. I will miss him but, then again, it'll be next Friday before I know it and we'll be headed into the city for dinner & the Met.
Last night I went to Friday's to see Roseann & Dan. Gave Dan his bottle o'Jager as a thank you/xmas present for always taking care of me when I'm there. Gave Roseann a gift card to Vicky's . She is insane - thats all I have to say. Gave me a Coach bag & matching wallet AND a Bath & Body Works set in Warm Vanilla Sugar. Love it all. Mwah!
So, today I'm off from work. Using up my last personal day of the year. Yay!! Don't have to work until Tuesday. So, I've been loafing on the couch and now I'm off to Anthropologie to do some damage. Teehehehehehe....

Finally feeling Christmas-y

Only 9 shopping days left, and I'm finally getting into the Christmas spirit. I thought my trip into NYC with Corey to see Santa & the tree did it, but I quickly fell out of it. Maybe it was the stress of classes & work. Now, my apartment is decorated, my candies made and 90% of my presents are wrapped. I finally feel like its Christmas time! Yay!!
However, I still have to deal with the stress of school for at least another week. :( Finals start on Monday. Something about complement proteins and microbial diseases that really puts a damper on my Christmas cheer.
I'm just looking forward to the end of this semester and the month off that follows. Free time? Whats that? I haven't had any of that in a LONG time and I can't wait.
So, now, when someone says: "Hey Mags! Wanna get dinner on *insert random weekday here*?" I can say: "ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY!!" Well....at least for a month.
Also means hours will be kicked up a notch at work which means that the cash flow will be slightly better. Just too bad that couldn't happen BEFORE the holidays, huh? But atleast that'll give me more time during the day to do what I have to so I'm not scrambling to get it all done by 4:30.
Looking forward to the weekend, too. Crop tonight with Kelly, Christmas party in Brooklyn on Saturday with Corey as well as our Christmas present exchange. I hope he likes what I got him. :)
My office holiday party is also next week. Bringing Corey as my date (of course). Can't wait for the girls to meet him. I know they'll love him.

Memoirs on the big screen

One of my favorite books of all time comes to the big screen today. Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden . I can't wait. I absolutely LOVE this book. It follows the life of a young Japanese girl sold by her family to a okiya in 1930's Kyoto's Gion district.

I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. I couldn't put it down and I've read it 1.5 times more. :) Now...if Lauren would just give me my copy back.

What cracks me up about this movie is the controversy that is surrounding it. Japan's in an uproar because they're afraid the partial Chinese cast will not be able to accurately portray their culture. The fact that Geisha were not, indeed, prostitutes. They were highly educated and cultured women who worked simply as company & entertainment for wealthy men. They were schooled in the art of seduction through music, dance, conversation. They never exchanged money for sex. At least the majority them didn't.

China's in a tizzy because they're still not over WWII. All the 'savagery & inhumanity' as my mother says. Apparently, they're pretty upset as one of their most beloved stars, Zhang Ziyi, is in Memoirs...

As for me...I could care less. I look forward to seeing this story brought to life. From what I've seen in clips & previews, Rob Marshall has done a pretty good job. I truly looks like a beautiful movie.

As for the Chinese actors playing Japanese characters? What does it matter? A Russian Natalie Wood played a Puerto Rican in Westside Story and you didn't hear them bitching, now did you? Heck...probably more than half of America can't tell the difference between Chinese and Japanese. I know I can't sometimes. Can you?

Oy. My reunion. What a night.
The day started off calmly enough.
Pretty much just laid around the house, did some laundry, blah, blah, blah.
Then I got ready for the festivities.
Kelly & Ryan picked me up around 6:15.
Got to the Holidome to set things up. The event started at 8, but a couple of us got there early to set up & stuff. Erica & Andrea came, too. Andrea looks fantastic!!
Of course....I start with the Jack & Diet Coke almost immediately. WHAT WAS I THINKING?!?

So, by the time people started showing up, I was nursing my third drink. And by nursing, I mean gulping, and by third, I mean fourth.....or was it fifth?
So, at this point, I'm pretty loosened up and just making the rounds.
Got to see some people I haven't seen in YEARS - it was quite cool.
Got to see the guy who nicknamed me that HORRID name in elementary school - and even got to tell his wife about it. LOL She wasn't too happy with him!! It was all in good fun.
Got to see my high school crush.....What WAS I THINKING?
I have to say the best thing about the whole night was that I just didn't give a rat's ass.
I walked around and talked to EVERYONE. Whether or not you talked to me in high school, you were talking to me that night - some people never change, though.
I danced my ass off with Bethany, Andrea, Erica & Kelly.
I think I probably smoked a pack of cigarettes with Mike, Max, Chris, Marika, Brian & Erin.
I actually had a rocking good time. I just wish I could remember more of it. :-p
Thank you to Kelly & Ryan for getting me home safely (and making sure I took the right coat).
Woke up the next morning with a WICKED hangover, a cut on my forehead (?), a coors light label stuck to my foot, 2 fun vmails & 1 text from Corey & a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.
It took two calls & an AIM conversation with Kelly to make me feel better. I also had a minor break down with my Mommy. But, I'm all good now. Promise.
The afternoon of retail therapy with Mom helped, too. :-)
Now, I just have to make it thru the week.......have a feeling its gonna be a long one. Sigh.

So tonight is my reunion. Found out there's a couple people I was looking forward to seeing that aren't going. Losers.
I have to get motivated.
I have to go get a pedi, do laundry and wrap the chocolate favors for tonight and I just have no energy to get my ass off the couch and do any of it.
I just want to veg and play on the 'puter. Sigh...
Last night was fun though. Went shopping with Elena at SuperWalmart and then got some sushi with Elena & Stacy. After a couple of beers with Bobbi Jo @ Bleacher's, Elena & I head over to Friday's to hang out with Roseann, Jack & Dan. It was much fun until I got sick from the Jack Strips. WICKED heart burn. WICKED WICKED heart burn with chest pain and OMG I need to leave now...... I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I was exhausted and had a traumatic day since I cut 5 inches off my hair. Holy ef its short.
But anyways, I'm rambling and thats never good for me. Gets me in trouble sometimes.

Another Thanksgiving has come & gone...and its almost time for Christmas! YAY!
Went to Doug's for dinner again this year. Corey's in West Virginia with his fam & hunting Bambi. Dinner was good - Katie was there with her boyfriend Joe who is a sweetheart and so good with Kassidy.

Tomorrow I'm chopping all my hair off. Yes, my friends - its ALL going. I can't wait. I know my hair isn't long to begin with, but I just can't take it anymore. I am NOT meant to have hair past my shoulders so I'm going with something somewhere between a chin length bob & a pixie. At least this time I won't be insulted & called a member of Oasis (fdb).

After my mini-makeover, I'm heading to Super Wal-Mart with Elena. Yes...I know....I'm effing crazy. Super WalMart on BLACK FRIDAY. Oy...We're going about 4ish, so hopefully the mad rush will be SOMEWHAT over with, but I'm not holding my breath. After shopping, its off for Japanese food & drinks @ Bleachers.

Saturday is my reunion. MY TEN YEAR HIGH SCHOOL REUNION. Wow...I feel old.
I'm going stag cuz my man is away but, so is Kelly so its all good. I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm looking forward to seeing some people I grew up with & some friends I met in high school. Namely: Eric K., Chris, Mike, Brian, Eric B.(grew up with them)
Erica, Andrea, Beth, Jimmy (my hs crush-don't worry ;) he's married!), Mike, Steve (met them in hs or jr. high).

Then, of course, there are the random people I couldn't stand in hs or those who made fun of me for being heavy. Mwahahahahaha.....SUCK IT.

All in all, it should be an interesting time. At least there's an open bar-even if its only for an hour. Doesn't take much to get me smashed, right?

Okay...I'm off to read or sleep or do something. Maybe I should study...........

Sleepy Maggie Sue

Very sleepy day.
Got outta school early last nite cuz I had my microbio midterm. Not so bad. Was quite happy the essay was on horizontal transfer (since I knew that one) and not the lytic/lysogenic cycles of viral replication (since I don't really know that one). But anyways....
Got home some time after 7 and enjoyed a relaxing evening.
Read The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis in 2 hours. Read it in elementary school and I wanted to re-read it before the movie comes out next month (can't wait). I was able to read it in two hours cuz 1. its a short book and 2. I didn't bother trying to figure out the symbolism like I usually do. There is a book that uncovers the allegories from the book and I may have to buy it and read it. With all this science in my head I'm just too lazy to try and figure out what Aslan represents.
So after that I started jazzing up my myspace.com profile. Added some pics, changed some fonts, yadda, yadda, yadda. Before I knew it, it was after 12:30 am. Of course, stubborn as I am, I kept at it until after 1 when I finally decided to hit the sack. Only to find that my neighbor has added a TV to his bedroom and apparently likes to watch HBO with the volume WAY up. So I slept on the couch.
So now: I'm tired. I'm cranky. My back hurts. I don't want to be at work, but I don't want to be at my apartment.

What is happening to rock in NY?

First the CBGB threat and now THIS ? WTF?
Seems like just a short time ago, I had commented on the fact that K-Rock had recently changed their format to include more classic rock. Awesome. Now I can hear Pink Floyd and Zeppelin in the same hour as Incubus and Green Day. Finally, a station that understands how my szichophrenic mind works (now, if they'd throw in some Britney, I'd be all good LOL). So, for the past few months, I've been rocking out the the nice new format - loving every second of it - only to find out that they're changing to ALL TALK in January!?!?!?! WTF!?!?!?!?
Howard's leaving, fine (good riddance). David Lee Roth is taking his place, great. Not that I ever listened to them in the morning anyways (I'm an AM girl in AM). But all talk? C'mon guys! Now, with the exception of the mediocre Q104.3, which plays only classic rock, NY has no rock station, whatsoever. I mean, sure I can deal with the classic rock, but NO mainstream rock? Again....WTF? How is it possible in an area as culturally diverse as ours that most of our radio stations only play rap/hip hop or pop? NO mainstream/modern rock and NO country. I can hear Celia Cruz or 50Cent anytime I want - but not Incubus or Alan Jackson.
As much as the thought of PAYING for radio kills me inside, I think I might have to switch to
Sirius based on their abundance of rock channels alone.

Beer, BBQ, Cookies & Applesauce

Quite a weekend. Corey & I left for Oneonta on Friday night and made pretty good time. Once we got there, we almost immediately started our weekend of partying like college kids (again) by checking out some local bars. Saturday it was on to the Baseball HOF & the Ommegang Brewery. After a quick nap we ate at Brooks BBQ (dee-lish) & then vegged out in our hotel room for the rest of the night. Sunday we headed over to the Albany area (after stopping in Schenevus for breakfast & cookies) to visit my Gram's gravesite as well as drop by Corey's friend's (Dave & LeighAnn) place. We ended up at an apple-sauce making party where we made home-made applesauce, drank beer & watched football. It was the perfect way to spend a cool fall evening. Actually...it was a perfect way to spend a fall weekend.

So excited for the weekend. Heading to the Oneonta with Corey. Think I'm definitely in store for a good time. Baseball Hall of Fame, the Ommegang Brewery and just hanging out in a cool college town. I'm so effing excited I can't sit still. It'll be here & over before I know it, though. Just like last weekend.

Matisyahu is a Hasidic jew who raps & pulls of a mean beatbox. Um...wow. Checked out some of his tunes and its actually good stuff. Songs have spiritual lyrics but aren't so blatant that you feel like you're being preached to.
This guy wasn't born into a Hasidic family, though. Check out his bio & it tells you how he rediscovered his faith after a trip to Israel. Quite interesting, actually. Studied at the New School which is also kinda neat, I thought.

I'm currently reading this fabulous book, Sex, Drugs & Cocoa Puffs , by Chuck Klosterman, a writer for Spin magazine. As soon as I finished the first chapter, I knew I had fallen in love. Well, maybe not LOVE but a very strong case of LIKE. The first chapter goes into his view on what he calls 'fake love' and how every woman loves John Cusack. He goes on to say that its not John Cusack the person that we supposedly love, its Lloyd Dobler - his character from the fabulous movied Say Anything.... Can't ya just see him standing there with the boom box blaring Peter Gabriel?
So is this true? Does every woman want a Lloyd Dobler? Do they want what Klosterman calls an "optimistic, charmingly loquacious teenager"? Yes and no. But thats another story for another time.
Klosterman writes: "Coldplay songs deliver an amorphous, irrefutable interpretation of how being in love is supposed to feel, and people find themselves wanting that feeling for real. They want men to adore them like Lloyd Dobler would, and they want women to think like Aimee Mann, and they expect all their arguments to sould like Sam Malone and Diane Chambers. They think everything will work out perfectly in the end (just like it did for Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones and Nick Hornby's Rob Fleming), and they don't stop believing, becuase Journey's Steve Perry insists that we should never do that. Do I want a love like a Coldplay song? To be honest, I've never gotten a love vibe from anything by Coldplay. If anything, it makes me a little depressed - is that what love is supposed to feel like? If so, I'll have no part in that, thank you very much. Love shouldn't require 20 mgs of Prozac and a tab of Xanax which is exactly what I need after I listen to Coldplay. Maybe I'm interpreting their music wrong - maybe I just don't listen as intently to the words as I should. But, I just don't care. Its the whole melody. (Ugh...Yellow just came on the radio) Unfortunately, some of the music by one of the best bands of all time, REM, makes me feel the same way. (They're playing on the radio now)

Never let my head hit the bed without your hand behind it

Had a girlie night last night with Roseann & Nicole. Girle = cosmos & manhating......err.....I mean we had a pillow fight in our underwear....yeah.....thats it. ;-)
So anyways, we got to talking about men & what flips our switches. We ended up each compiling a list on a cocktail napkin (scans to come). Now, we avoided the usual suspects, which we decided that every woman pretty much likes - candlelight, a roaring fire, Marvin Gaye, yadda, yadda, yadda. So my list basically was made up of three songs: Your Body is a Wonderland by John Mayer, Blower's Daughter by Damien Rice and Crush by DMB (the long 8 minute version, though). I got made fun of because of this. I was the only one that had songs on her list.
Then of course there was the superficial stuff like baseball caps & hockey jerseys. Which was pretty much ALL Nicole's list was. ;-) Then physical stuff like touching my face when we kiss or kissing my neck when he stands behind me, blah, blah, blah.
So anyway....the whole point of this discussion has now been forgotten. After sharing our lists with eachother we decided to call it a night and I head home and crashed.
So today, I'm doing some retail/cinema therapy with my mom and then tomorrow I'm off to ride the roller coasters at 6 Flags! YAY!!!!!!!!

TG for personal days

Wow....thats all I have to say about U2. Wow.
What an unbelievable concert. It was AMAZING.
I have to admit, I started out not as jazzed as I should've been to go to see them. I was tired and I've been eating hershey kisses & peanut butter the last few days, so I've been kinda bitchy. To compound my frustrations, I hit massive traffic delays. The thruways is NEVER backed up Westchester bound at 5 on a Monday. Where were you people going??!?!
When I got into the city, though, my attitude changed.
Met the girls - Elena, Kat & Marty - at Molly Wee's (thinking this may be my and Elena's newest favorite place). They had already started pregaming without me. Effing traffic. So I had lots to catch up on. I did get an inflatable mini hockey stick, though! Sweet! I decided it was my cell phone and after some beers & a yummy shot (made up on the spot special for us) I decided to USE my hockey stick as a cell phone and call Bono for Elena. It was a wierd situation......sigh.
So, after Wee's, we hauled ass to MSG and drank some more beers and ate some salty ass popcorn.
Keane went on promptly at 8 and were actually pretty good. Elena & I really weren't that interested and were more into talking on our cell phones and trying to find Kat & Marty on the other side of the arena. Waving of my 'cell phone' helped. LOL
After Keane and a bizillion trips to pee, U2 finally came on. They opened with Vertigo and it was amazing. I knew the second I heard the music start and heard Bono start the countdown I was in for a great show. I was right. The energy in MSG was insane.
One really cool thing they did was ask everyone to show their cell phones and it made the arena look like it was filled with stars - it was actually beautiful.
THREE HOURS AND EIGHT ENCORES LATER...the show was over.
We met up with Kat & Marty outside Nathan's and after a short discussion of the show and some minor bitching about our feet, we headed back to my car.
While we're walking, I see a limo driver standing next to his car with a sign "Kristen Seyfried." I say to the driver, kidding around of course, "I wish I was Kristen!!" The driver looked at me, blatantly eye fucked me and said: "So do I!" GASP!! Thats SO not what I meant buddy!! I felt violated. ROFL
So we got back to the car, paid a FORTUNE to park and headed back to Rockland.
Every bar in Rockland apparantly closes early on Monday nights so we headed home. :( no postgame for us.
So, in short (I know, too late) it was a great night!!
Now, I just wish it was Friday.............sigh. I'll settle for wednesday, though. ;-)

Thought I had a rage brewing....

Hung out most of yesterday with Kelly. It was much fun. Found out I think Alison Krauss eats thru my soul. I honestly don't remember saying that. What a see-you-next-tuesday I was!!
Went out after leaving Kelly's Elena, Bobbi-Jo & Brian to celebrate Bobbi's birthday. Went to our usual haunt, Bleacher's, and basically just hung out and danced to our usual jukebox tunes. Anyways....when I got home I was lying in bed thinking of all these things that were stewing in my neocortex (gimme a break - I had a neuro test last week). As I stared at my blank ceiling, I started to write my blog entry in my head. Okay...normally a good idea. Actually something I do quite often. Only one problem - I forgot the WHOLE thing. Don't even have the SLIGHTEST idea what I was SO pissed about. Sigh....blame it on Amstel & Johnny Walsh.
One good thing did happen last night. Not saying the whole night was a bust, cuz it wasn't, but this one good thing was FABULOUS. Johhny Walsh has agreed to have Elena & I as guest bartenders for a night and all proceeds to go to the American Cancer Society. AWESOME. KICK ASS. Now, we just have to pick a date.
So, Monday is the U2 concert. I THINK I'm prepared to have my arm ripped off by Elena as she screams and jumps and cries when her future fake hubby comes on stage. LOL Pregaming at Molly Wee's and postgaming in Rockland somewhere - cuz face it, its cheaper.
Tuesday is loser day for me. :( I took the day off to recover from Monday.
Wednesday is Corey's second show at the Magnet. Kelly & Ryan are coming with. Thats a good thing.
So, since I forgot what on EARTH I was so angry about, I shall end this pointless rambling.
But, I do have to say this:
You should have to take a breathilizer before you can text message. I'm sorry if I bombarded you with senseless ramblings of me getting my ass kicked at Big Buck Hunter 2 and listening to Toby Keith & whatnot.
Oh yeah...and this: For the first time EVER in my life - I went over my minutes on my cell phone! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!?!?!? When I brought this up to my darling mother she politely told me that it is because the thing is permenantly attached to my ear and has been for quite a while now. Hmmm...interesting. Thinking I really need to reconsider that blackberry...lol.

Back from the south

Just got back from my bro's in NoCarolina. It was a l----------ong trip, but fun just the same.

Off from work tomorrow (TG - I'm exhausted) so I can do my normal weekend errands in one day & then head to school. Laundry, shopping, oil change....other mundane tasks to which I must attend.

Quite the weekend at my first Virginia Tech football game - it was unreal. So much more than I expected, actually. Had a great time! Tailgated & just generally hung out the whole weekend. Got to meet a couple of Corey's friends & fellow tailgaters.
Thank you, Corey - I had a great time. (wildcat noise)
And thank you to Dwight & Charity for their hospitality & yummy breakfast.

So this was the hell on the TZ bridge yesterday afternoon. Thank goodness we have a radio on at work, otherwise I would've been stuck in this hell for probably 3 hours. Granted, I had to leave work earlier than normal (not so much a problem, I know) and skip dinner because it took me 45 minutes longer to get to Mercy than it normally does. Oh well. Besides, 3 hours of micro had to be better than 3 hours of sitting on the thruway, right?

Had a great time at the Brooklyn Brewfest on Saturday. Got to try some great local brews & I even ate a hot dog!! YIKES! It was so effing yummy. I even got to become a Beer Goddess - I have the panties to prove it! ;)
Mesclun was there - pics to come soon. By soon I mean as soon as I get my lazy ass to scan them in. Didn't use the digital.
After the Brewfest it was on to Republic for some dinner.
After dinner it was on to The Magnet Theater for some hilarious improv.
After laughing our asses off, it was on to Black Finn for an Avon Breast Cancer Walk Fundraiser.
It was a long, but amazing day. I had a great time.
So now, this weekend I'm off to Blacksburg, Virginia for my very first Hokie game. Yay!! My first football game!!

Feeling scholarly

So my beloved vacay is over and its back to work & school for me.
I was quite busy at work today - full of disability forms & letters waiting for me to fill out & type. It seems I'm only one of two people in the office who understand how to use Microsoft Word.

So after work it was on to school. I had Advanced Human Physiology for Biomedical Sciences. Sounds like fun, huh?
One great thing is I have one of my favorite professors for the class, which just makes it better. So 3 hours flew by - yeah, right.
Tomorrow night I have micro, which should be interesting.

Then its almost the weekend!! YAY!!!!

All in all, Maggie is a happy girl.

After seeing Stacy's toes I'm going to have to go with the hair thing. Though i had a dream the other night my toenails fell off. Hmmm...wonder what that means?

Wheat without question. I love the outdoors too much. But then again...there is wheat in soy sauce so that is tougher than I thought....
No wheat....definitely wheat. Don't use that much soy, anyways. Besides, I don't need the salt. LOL

be forced to wear a clown nose and rubber boots while singing "i'm a little teapot" at superbowl half-time OR have pictures of you in the shower be shown on prime-time television?
The half-time festivities for sure. I'd rather be a ham than have my thighs, which look like hams, shown on national tv. Besides, I'm sure someone out there finds clown noses & rubber boots sexy - though I'm not sure I want to meet such a person.

Mesclun the Magic Purple Platypus - Master of the Salad Toss!
















I won him Saturday at the Ren Faire playing a game called Salad Toss (I know). The idea was to throw these stuffed tomatoes (yes, with an 'e') thru these cardboard cut outs of Ren inspired characters. I won and was blessed with my new buddy - Mesclun.

So look out for Mesclun - he's my new partner in crime and will accompanying me on my travels about the tri-state area (and beyond).

Coming up on Mesclun's calendar of events: the Brooklyn Brewfest, my first football game at Virginia Tech, & my bro's in North Carolina.

But for now - here are some things I learned at the Ren Faire this year:

1. Yards were shorter in midieval times.
2. Somebody likes chainmail...
3. Crushed velvet purple pants are hot
4. I throw like a girl
5. People still play Dungeons & Dragons (or at least want to)
6. Everything is better with powdered sugar.

I am officially on VACAY!!

WOOHOOO!! No WORK no SCHOOL for a week & a half!! YAY!
Took my chem final last night-yuck. How can I forget how to do a condensation reaction between amino acids when I've done it a MILLION times before. GOSH! IDIOT!!!
After school I dined on some delicious shrimps (yes...shrimps) at the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate the end of the semester.
Then it was home to C-R-A-S-H.
I worked today and now I'm on VACAY! Let the PARTY begin!!
Not going to Bar Harbor :( Damned tuition - I hate you.
So, instead I'm filling my week with cleaning, shopping & happy hour with Elena. :)
Tonite is Rhode's with Kelly, Ryan, Marc, Jen & her two pals Gina & Phan. We're checking out a reggae band. Should be a good time and in true Rhode's tradition - like a mini-high school reunion.

Oh my goodness - what a birthday! WOOHOOO!!

Thursday, my actual bday, I arrived at work to find balloons (from Debbie & Lauren), cake (from Debbie) & presents (from Jaime) on my desk! Yay!! My coworkers rock! About half-way thru my day I got a beautiful basket of flowers from Kris, Meena, Gemma & Dawn. Then...about 3 o'clock, I got a dozen red roses...from Tom. They are beautiful. Thank you.

My phone & email were blowing up with all the Happy Birthday wishes. It made me a very happy girl.

That night, after I took my Chem lab practical, I met up with the girls at Bleachers for some fun. It ended up being Me, Theresa, Lauren, Jaime, Stacy, Elena & Jen. Bobbi-Jo and her new lover stopped by for a bit. We met some new people and some old friends of Stacy's. Chris stopped by for a bit and we all hung out and played pool and I drank my face off and I even got to sit on a Harley. The sexy bartender hooked us up all night. Sweet. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!! After, Jen drove me home. Thank you Jen! You ROCK!

The next day I woke up with a raging headache & reeking of SoCo. I got up and showered and got dressed as best I could and Mom took me to lunch and to see March of the Penguins. It was adorable & yes, I cried my eyes out! Then it was home to prepare for the night ahead.

I met up with Elena & Stacy at Elena's apartment. We then headed over to Nanuet to pick up Loveleen before hitting Fiesta Mexico for some din din. Yummmy.....vegetarian platter filled my belly (along with a REALLY strong Bicardi & diet coke). Then we made the trek into Manhattan to the Culture Club.

After parking we walked a couple of blocks (me in 3 1/2 inch heels, mind you) to meet Steve outside the club. He was equipped with three disposable cameras to document the evening. We got inside and the partying began!! Culture Club was AMAZING. Wicked awesome 80's club!! Sherrol & her pal Lisa joined us shortly after and we partied it up.

Steve gave me my bday present - a gift certificate to Sephora - and informed me the other half was on its way. A Napoleon bobble-head for my car and the Vote For Pedro tshirt. :) Such a sweetie.

So we danced the night away to fabulous 80's tunes and drank some crazy shots like the Ghostbusters & the Rubiks Cube. I had an amazing drink called the Ronald Raegan. So yummy. Then it was after 2:30 and we decided to head home. Steve walked us safely to our car while taking video of us. We were ROCK STARS!!

I got home after 4 and collapsed.

Saturday I met Steve in Brooklyn for some sushi and some snuggles before I went home and got dinner at Dave & Buster's. Remind me...Haagan Daaz = Evil

Sunday I spent relaxing before grabbing some food with Corey at Outback.

So thats it...my exciting bday weekend!! It really was a blast!!

Catching Treble's softball game tomorrow night - if I feel okay. Woke up this morning with a raging sinus headache. Blaaaahhhh......

Friday is the AIDS fundraiser in the city and Saturday is the dinner party at Rob's.

Its almost my birthday!!!

Hey all! What a weekend! And not necessarily in a good way.
Started out Friday night - I drove out to Long Island to have coffee with Jay. We ended up going to shoot pool and then I drove home exhausted. :-p

Saturday, I pretty much hung around the house - did some laundry & what not. Then I went shoe shopping and ended up with three really pretty pairs of shoes. :) Then I head into the city to see Steve. Thats when all hell broke loose!

I met him at Darryl's studio on 26th. We went to Monster Sushi for dinner. It was quite yummy. Then it was off to the movies to see Charlie & the Chocolate Factory. After the movie, we walked back to Darryl's to get my car. Um...where's my car? Not there. I freaked! Who the hell would steal my car?!?!? WHAT THE F&*%?!?!?!? So at this point, I'm hysterical - pacing up and down 26th street and crying. I called 911 and they told me I had to call 311. 311 told me they couldn't help me because I don't have a plate number because I still have temporary tags. So I called 911 and asked them to please send an officer over. They did and the cops arrived almost a half hour later.

Turns out, I parked in a 'Night Restriction' Zone. What the...?!?!? Never heard of it. Didn't even see the sign. So...my car was towed to the impound lot on the west side. So Steve and I took a cab and were finally able to get my car out. $185 of Steve's money later. Thank you again - you are the best. I mean it.

So we finally made it back to Brooklyn and fell fast asleep after our stressful night.

We slept late Sunday morning and got up and I took Steve to breakfast. It was the least I could do. I drove him to his studio and headed home.

When I got home, I was still so tired and I ended up sleeping most of the day.

Then I went to see Must Love Dogs with the Quinn-meister and invited him to my impromptu birthday festivities on Thursday at Johnny Walsh's. We'll see if he shows. ;-P

Well..thats all for now. I'm tired. Just had an algebra test and I have a chem take home to do now.

Only 3 days til OAR!!

YAY!! Only three days til Lena & I head down to the Jersey shore for our weekend o'fun part deux.
Here's our tentative itinerary:

Friday: Leave Rockland about 4 pm and head to PNC for some tailgating and the OAR concert. Post concert, the gang will head over to Bar A in Belmar for some more party before heading to Dan's house in Tom's River.

Saturday: Relax on the beach and bbq. Play a little volleyball...soak up a little sun. Relax. Saturday night its off on a booze cruise for some more party goodness!!

Sunday: Home to relax from our relaxing weekend. ;-)

Can't wait!! I need this....desperately. Montauk wasn't enough...I need more.

Things I learned in Montauk...

I'm fresh home from a wonderful FAB-U-LOUS weekend at "The End." I'm a little tired, so rather than give y'all the full play-by-play, I'll tell you what I learned and the transcript will come later...

1. There's no traffic at 5 am.
2. A two-year old makes the best cabana boy.
3. Fried chicken is good - especially on the beach.
4. Herb's makes the BEST coffee.
5. Manucci-tini's rock!!
6. I CAN tie a cherry stem with my tongue!
7. I like Pinot Noir (especially after 2 martinis)
8. Bachelor pads have broken toilet seats & Penthouse magazine.
9. Irish boys LOVE Lena.
10. Free beer tastes better.
11. Free shots taste better.
